Amaroni

Amaroni ” bay 2yr colt born 15th May 2008 at 10.30 pm by Sulamani ex Fortunes Favourite

“Amaroni” is now the latest addition to our ever growing number of horses. It will of course be a while before he makes his race course debut but already given his breeding, we have high hopes for him as he has grown into a strong well proportioned colt.

HIS SIRE

BREAKING NEWS: MASTERY SON OF SULAMANI WINS GROUP ONE ST LEGER

Sulamani justified Godolphin's decision to purchase the colt following his close second to the stable's Marienbard in the Arc with a breathtaking first start victory for his new owners in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Nad Al Sheba on March 29, 2003.

His initial target of the Dubai World Cup was bypassed in favour of the Sheema Classic run on turf and connections could not have made a better call. Though for sometime the four-year-old left racegoers guessing as to how he was going to fare. Last for over a mile Sulamani warmed to his task as he turned into the three furlong straight and the ground he covered to overhaul the entire field was an awesome sight. In the end he had three quarters of a length to spare over his former French team mate Ange Gabriel.

Despite the source of some disappointment since winning the Sheema Classic, Sulamani achieved a remarkable milestone for Godolphin when becoming their 100th Group/Grade One winner when awarded the Arlington Million at Arlington Park, Chicago on August 16, 2003. Balanchine started the ball rolling with her victory in the English Oaks in the year of Godolphin’s inception, 1994 and whilst there have been many memorable moments along the way Sulamani has earned a special place in the hearts of connections.

The result Godolphin had been looking for since Leadership won at this level in Italy on June 22 had created a good deal of media attention and Sulamani was under the spotlight when contesting the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at the end of July. A solid second there on the back of a disappointing run in France indicated that Sulamani was returning to his best form. Whilst he failed to win the Arlington Million on merit it can be argued he did not have the best of runs in the race.

After breaking well he was caught up in traffic and had to challenge seven wide on the home turn into the short straight. Finishing best of all he just failed to catch the first past the post Storming Home, who was later demoted to fourth place for swerving just before the line, causing interference to two horses behind him and unseating jockey Gary Stevens. Sulamani, who played no part in the interference, was awarded the race and his place in Godolphin history.

Sulamani won his second Grade One event in America - strictly on merit this time - when overcoming trouble in running to win the Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park on September 27. Jerry Bailey was content to sit last of the seven runners as the leaders set a moderate pace, recording a slow first mile but when Sulamani attempted to close at the two furlong marker he clipped heels with the horse in front causing him to stumble dramatically. Not only was he able to make a full recovery but he went on to pass the entire field to win easily by nearly three lengths, showing his customary brilliant acceleration.
